			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>This year, IEEE celebrates its own IEEE Day on October 6th 2011. All members are suggested to arrange its own event to celebrate the day, still with the style of the IEEE: technical meetings, social gathering, etc. The theme for this year is &#8220;Empowering Members to Create the Future&#8221; <img src='http://komunikasi.org/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> .</p>

<p>So this week we planned, arranged, and carried out the event titled<strong> IEEE Day Lectures on LTE Development</strong>. The event was organised by the IEEE Indonesia Section and the IEEE Comsoc Indonesia Chapter, supported by IEEE Student Branch University of Indonesia and IEEE Student Branch Telkom Institute of Technology.</p>
<p>The venue was at <a href="http://atamerica.or.id">@America</a>. @America is a public room owned and managed by the US Embassy in Jakarta. Located in a business centre just in the centre of Jakarta, it is a high-technology cultural centre where people can explore, experience, and express their interests in fresh and exciting ways. In its physical and virtual spaces, the visitors can experience cool and cutting-edge technology, interactive games, and live events designed to generate interest and create communities.</p>

<p>In 2009-2010, the Comsoc Chapter has carried out a series of lectures, seminars, and technical meetings discussing the aspects of 4G Mobile Networks. In 2011, some network providers have started to implement some of the technologies discussed. The IEEE Day Lectures was to start the discussion of current implementation of technologies related to 4G Mobile in Indonesia. It commenced a series of discussion about many aspects, including the LTE Deployement, WiMAX positioning, IPTV implementation over 4G, cognitive radio, policies on spectrum, context-aware applications, etc.</p>
<p>The IEEE Day Lectures itself presented the speakers:</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Seperti pernah disampaikan, setiap bulan IEEE Communications Society memberikan tutorial-tutorial pilihan, yang beberapa di antaranya diberikan tanpa biaya. Ini merupakan kesempatan menarik untuk meningkatkan keahlian para anggota IEEE maupun para engineer pada umumnya. Tutorial ini gratis bukan saja bagi para anggota, tetapi bagi setiap pengunjung. Namun waktu bagi setiap tutorial terbatas hanya satu hingga dua bulan saja, kemudian akan digantikan oleh tema lainnya.</p>
<p>Seluruh tutorial dipaparkan oleh para pakar bidang-bidang yang dilingkupi dalam ruang minat IEEE Comsoc. Setiap tutorial memerlukan waktu antara 2 hingga 5 jam. Tutorial gratis yang saat ini sedang aktif diantaranya:</p>

<li><strong><a href="http://www.comsoc.org/form/tutorial-registration-next-generation-wireless-broadband">Next Generation Wireless Broadband </a></strong><br />
Tutorial ini memberikan landasan yang kuat atas bakuan teknologi broadband wireless, yang meliputi WiMAX II (IEEE 802.16m), IEEE 802.22, dan LTE, dengan berbagai variasi keunggulannya. Topik yang dikaji meliputi layer fisik (PHY), modulasi dan coding adaptif, transmisi OFDMA dan SC-FDMA, sistem multi-antena, layer MAC (medium access control), transmisi FDD dan TDD, serta format frame. Juga dipaparkan kajian atas wireless relay, co-operative network, dan peningkatan kinerja cell edge pada jaringan OFDMA.</li>
<li><strong><a href="http://ww2.comsoc.org/form/tutorial-registration-generalized-dft-ofdm-communications">Generalized DFT for OFDM Communications </a></strong><br />
DFT (discrete Fourier transform) merupakan hal yang membangun bagian inti pada berbagai jenis teknologi transmisi broadband, dari xDSL hingga OFDM. Tutorial ini memaparkan Generalised DFT fasa non linear yang baru saja diperkenalkan, yang menawarkan peningkatan cukup besar pada DFT non linear. Contoh-contoh yang dibawakan meliputi kemampuan adaptif GDFT untuk mengatasi degradasi kinerja penguatan daya RF dan kinerja BER. Beberapa metode perancangan GDFT efisien dan kinerjanya dalam skenario komunikasi di dunia nyata juga ditelaah di sini.</li>
<li><strong><a href="http://www.comsoc.org/form/tutorial-registration-ipv6-transition">IPv6 Transition </a></strong><br />
Komunikasi nirkawat generasi keempat mengharuskan aliran informasi yang seluruhnya dilakukan menggunakan protokol Internet dari ujung ke ujung. Dengan skala pemakaian komunikasi mobile yang besar, IPv4 tak mungkin lagi dipertahankan untuk pengalamatan piranti mobile di seluruh dunia di tahun-tahun mendatang. Maka transisi ke IPv6 merupakan hal yang harus mulai diseriusi, khususnya bagi pihak-pihak yang akan menjadi pelopor 4G Mobile.</li>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Electrical Engineering Department of Universitas Pelita Harapan held a workshop titled<strong> 4G: LTE, WiMAX II, or Else? Technologies, Regulations, and Opportunities</strong> at MYC Multipurpose Room, UPH Lippo Village Campus. This workshop was held under the coordination of UPH and IEEE Communications Society Indonesia Chapter, a world-class association that aims to advance the technology. Workshop was carried out on Monday, 19 April 2010.</p>
<p>A message from UPH Rector Jonathan Parapak was for technology personnel to also pay attention to content as well. &#8220;The advanced technology is no doubt something good for human beings, but contents are also no less important since sophisticated technology would be useless if only used for negative things. The impact of the technology itself should be devoted to the welfare of society,&#8221; he said in the speech.</p>

<p>Information technology is growing fast each day. Now maybe we are familiar with the term 3G or even 3.5G for the latest one of data transmission process through internet. However, soon we will be dazzled by 4G technology, which has the speed up to 100MB/sec for uploading and 1GB/sec for downloading.</p>
<p>All of this was discussed in the workshop that presented five speakers who are competent in their respective field. Ihan Martoyo from UPH discussed &#8220;4G: It Is Not What You Think&#8221;, H. Arief Gunawan from Telkom and IEEE with the topic &#8220;LTE: The Technology Details&#8221;, Hadi Hariyanto from Telkom and IEEE on &#8220;WiMAX II: Technology and Challenges&#8221;, Denny Setiawan from UI on &#8220;4G Policy and Regulatory Challenges&#8221;, and Kusuma Lienandjaja from Ericsson Indonesia with the topic &#8220;Business Opportunities with 4G.&#8221; (UPH/cyn)</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Bulan Februari ini, serial seminar &#8220;Opening The Gates to 4G Mobile Technology&#8221; tiba di kota Surabaya. Host atas seminar ini adalah <a href="http://uphsurabaya.ac.id">Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH Surabaya)</a>, dengan koordinasi langsung dari Vice Rector <strong>Prof. Dr. John Batubar</strong>a. Seminar bertempat di Hotel Mercure Surabaya (20 Februari 2009), seminar ini menyampaikan materi yang telah diperkaya dari hasil diskusi pada seminar-seminar sebelumnya, baik di Bandung, Yogyakarta, maupun Jakarta.</p>
<p>Berbeda dengan seminar sebelumnya pada serial ini, seminar di UPH ini dihadiri juga oleh IEEE Indonesia Section Chair, <strong>Arnold Ph Djiwatamp</strong>u. Dari UPH hadir Rektor <strong>Jonathan Parapak</strong>. Juga diberikan porsi yang lebih besar untuk memperkenalkan program-program IEEE untuk memberikan support dan benefit bagi para mahasiswa dan profesional di bidang engineering. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Seperti yang telah direncanakan, Bandung merupakan kota pertama untuk serial seminar &#8220;Opening the Gates to 4G&#8221; <img src='http://komunikasi.org/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> . Ini adalah serial seminar yang diluncurkan IEEE Comsoc Indonesia Chapter, dan didukung IEEE Indonesia Section dan Mastel. Seminar ini bertujuan untuk membuka perbincangan yang lebih luas mengenai pengembangan network, service, dan aplikasi di Indonesia memanfaatkan platform 4G.</p>

<p>Seperti yang disiratkan tajuk seminar ini, terdapat lebih dari satu gerbang menuju ke teknologi mobile 4G. Di sisi network, setelah tumbangnya UMB, kita memiliki LTE dan WiMAX II. Tapi banyak parameter lain yang menandai 4G. Cognitive radio memungkinkan perangkat2 kita secara cerdas memilih spektrum dan platform telekomunikasinya mengikuti kebutuhan, lokasi, dan parameter lain, yang secara umum disebut dengan konteks. Pun aplikasi tengah mengarah ke aplikasi peduli konteks (context-aware applications).</p>
<p>Seminar ini dibuka IEEE Comsoc Chapter Chair, Kuncoro Wastuwibowo, dengan memaparkan kebutuhan dan requirement atas 4G, baik dari sisi reguirement oleh ITU, maupun oleh kebutuhan industri. Selain cognitive radio, dibahas skema all-IP network (yang artinya juga dukungan atas IPv6), antena cerdas (MIMO, spatial multiplex), dan OFDMA. Lalu Arief Hamdani Gunawan (vice chair IEEE Indonesia Section) melakukan diskusi panjang dan mendalam tentang LTE, lengkap dengan SAE. Kemudian Kuncoro membandingkan dengan mengulas mengenai WiMAX II yang masih berstatus pre-standard (IEEE 806.16m).</p>
<p>Sebagai penutup, seminar diakhiri dengan diskusi tentang context-aware application dan pervasive computing. Seminar berikutnya akan diselenggarakan di Yogyakarta, Jakarta, dan Pulau Bali serta Sumatra.</p>
