DLP Prof Mehmet Ulema

Baru seminggu masuk tahun 2009, Chapter telah melaksanakan salah satu kegiatan rutin: menyelenggarakan distinguished lecture. Lecture kali ini mengambil tema Network & Service Management, dengan lecture Professor Mehmet Ulema dari Manhattan College.

DLP dilaksanakan selama dua hari, yaitu tanggal 7 Januari 2008 di Kampus Institut Teknologi Telkom, Bandung; dan tanggal 8 Januari 2008 di Kampus Universitas Bina Nusantara, Jakarta. Profesor Ulema membawakan lecture bertemakan Network Management (NM).

Dalam lecturenya, Prof Ulema mengingatkan bahwa NM lebih merupakan sebuah seni daripada sains. Nilai seni NM terasa saat kita melakukan integrasi berbagai sistem. NM juga merupakan bidang yang bersifat multidisiplin, meliputi bidang teknik elektro, komputer, matematika, operational research, ekonomi, dan tentu management.

Mula2, dipaparkan berbagai dimensi NM, baik dari jenis network, fungsi, stage, dan aspek lainnya. Kemudian dikaji berbagai standar NM, dari ITU (TMN), IETF (berbagai versi SNMP), ISO OSI (CMIP), dan lain-lain (TMF, OMG, OSF, DMTF, dan metode-metode NM yang tercakup dalam standar-standar IEEE, 3GPP, hingga (G)MPLS/ASON). Kemudian, diperdalam juga berbagai model standard itu; dari TMN dan arsitektur lengkapnya (logika, informasi — SMI dan MIB, fungsi, fisik), pendalaman MIB sendiri, dan MIB II, ke SNMP hingga SNMP v3 dan rencana versi SNMP berikutnya, RMON, dan arsitektur NM yang praktis, hingga ke produk-produk NM yang ada saat ini (baik komersial maupun open source), MPLS, IPv6, 3-play, NGN, dan ditutup dengan trend-trend ke depan (autonomic computing etc).

Baik di ITT maupun Binus, kuliah diikuti puluhan mahasiswa dan staf akademik. Umumnya peserta berperan cukup aktif dalam perbincangan, baik di dalam maupun di luar forum.

Chapter Meeting 2008

IEEE Comsoc Indonesia Chapter Meeting telah terselenggara pada tanggal 19 April 2008 di RDC Tower, kompleks Telkom RDC (Research & Development Centre), Bandung. Meeting ini dibagi atas dua sesi, yaitu officer meeting, yang kemudian diikuti member meeting. Officer meeting, berlangsung dari pukul 10.00 hingga 12.00, membahas kembali pengawakan organisasi, rencana pembentukan cabang siswa (student branch), penyusunan sub-section yang akan dikembangkan menjadi section, dan action plan 2008.

Sementara officer meeting berlangsung, member mulai berdatangan. Peserta adalah Member dan Senior Member yang berasal dari UI, ITT, Univ Pelita Harapan, Univ Trisakti, LIPI, Tritronik, Telkom, dan institusi lainnya.

Setelah makan siang, Member meeting dimulai dengan opening speech dari wakil Telkom sebagai host, yaitu Mr Wiseto dari Telkom RDC. Beliau berbagi info tentang rencana pengembangan network dan service di Telkom, termasuk yang tercakup dalam INSYNC2014 (Rencana NGN Telkom). Speech ini diakhiri dengan ajakan kerjasama dalam penelitian dan pengembangan dalam bidang infokom, sesuai bidang pengkajian yang diperdalam oleh society-society dalam IEEE.

Mr M Ary Murti, sebagai chapter chairman, kemudian membacakan dan mendiskusikan laporan tahunan Comsoc chapter. Mr Arief Hamdani, IEEE Indonesia Section chairman, melanjutkan dengan diskusi tentang fasilitas dan peluang pengembangan bagi anggota IEEE. Para anggota senior (Prof Dadang Gunawan, Prof John Batubara, dan banyak lagi) meramaikan diskusi dengan berbagai cara mensinergikan kegiatan anggota; termasuk internal training, knowledge sharing, professional communications, perencanaan distinguished lecture programmes (DLP) yang lebih baik, dll. Pertemuan ditutup pukul 16.30 WIB.

IEEE Indonesia Section dan IEEE Indonesia Comsoc Chapter mengucapkan terima kasih kepada Telkom sebagai penyelenggara kegiatan ini. Juga disampaikan terima kasih untuk Member dan Senior Member yang telah meluangkan waktu untuk hadir. Action plan akan dikirimkan melalui e-notice kepada setiap anggota yang hadir.

WOCN 2008

The fifth IEEE and IFIP International Conference WOCN2008 will be held in Surabaya, Indonesia, 5th of May through 7th of May, 2008. WOCN2008 is the fifth conference in its series aimed at stimulating technical exchange in the emerging and important field of Optical, mobile and wireless communications and networks. WOCN2008 seeks to address and capture highly innovative and state of the art research and work in the wireless and Optical industries. WOCN2008 seeks to address and capture highly innovative and state of the art research and work in the wireless and Optical industries.

The scope of the conference includes a wide range of technical challenges in view of the growing interest for wireless access to Internet and the evolution of third and fourth generation wireless and cellular systems included ITU IMT/UMTS. The conference also accepts progress on IST European Commission funded research projects. The Authors can present their finding on wireless quality of service, resource management, Ad Hoc and sensor networks. Radio interface design, adaptive antennas and arrays and indoor propagation, measurement and predictions also will be considered. A growing number of digital devices inside homes and the application of Ultra Wide Band (UWB), as well as Spectrum efficiency and low power consumption including low cost and secure wireless personal access are some of the areas to be considered in this conference. Optical communications networks are becoming increasingly important as the demand for high capacity links are required. Dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) is widely deployed at the core networks to accommodate high capacity transport systems. Optical components, such as optical amplifier, tunable filters, transceivers, termination devices and add-drop multi-plexers are becoming more affordable and reliable. Access and metropolitan area networks are increasingly built with optical technologies to overcome the electronic bottleneck at network edges. New components and subsystems for high-speed optical networks offer new design options. The objective of this event is therefore to foster the exchange of information among researchers in this fast-moving field. The authors can present their finding on new Fibers, optical fiber gratings and devices, optical amplifiers, optical sensing and medical application of fiber optics and Opto-Electronics and microwave over optics.
