Presentasi WiMAX II

Next Generation DVB and Cooperative Wireless Networking

This month, Comsoc launched two new free tutorials, which could be accessed by the IEEE members and by public.

The first tutorial titled Cooperative Wireless Networking. This tutorial introduces cooperation concept for wireless networks. Cooperation is known as an effective strategy in nature to achieve individual or common goals by forming cooperative groups. As the crossover between nature and engineering has always been fruitful, this tutorial is introducing cooperative concepts for wireless networks advocating mobile devices to cluster in a peer-to-peer fashion. In three lectures cooperation is advocated to overcome the most critical problems in mobile communication, known as energy consumption, security, and higher data rates. The first part will introduce the main rules for cooperation. Whether to cooperate or act autonomously has to be decided by each mobile device individually. Following the rule “The real egoistic behavior is to cooperate”, mutual aid among mobile devices will be applied if and only if it is beneficial for all group members. The second part is presenting cooperation concepts at the different protocol layers from applications to the physical layer. In the last part topics such as social mobile networks, game theory and genetic programming are presented.

The second tutorial titled Next Generation Digital Video Broadcast Standard. It is an overview of the new digital video broadcasting standard DVB-T2. The new standard approved by ETSI provides high definition television over terrestrial links by deploying new error detection codes, new modulation schemes, and news transmission formats.

Free Papers: Context-Aware Services

Dalam pengelolaan network, dikenal Quality of Service.

Free Papers: IMS

The IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) is an architectural framework for delivering Internet Protocol (IP) multimedia services. Originally designed by the 3GPP as a part of the vision for evolving mobile networks beyond GSM, this vision was later updated by 3GPP, 3GPP2 and TISPAN by requiring support of networks other than GPRS, such as Wireless LAN, CDMA2000 and fixed line. IMS uses IETF protocols wherever possible, e.g. Session Initiation Protocol (SIP).

IEEE Communications Society has chose IMS as this month’s featured technology. Papers discussing IMS are provided free this month for the visitors of IEEE Comsoc. Those include the IMS architecture and strategy; its usage in 3G, 4G, and IPTV; and the potential applications to develop over it.

New Tutorial: Optic and WDM

A new free tutorial has been launched at the Comsoc tutorial site. Titled Basics of Optical Communications and WDM, the tutorial covers the functions and operational characteristics of available optical fibers, transceivers, and specialized passive and active components needed for designing modern optical fiber communication links. It explains the distortion effects that dispersion and nonlinear processes have on signals, defines bit error rate concepts, and identifies measurement equipment and procedures used to verify system operating characteristics. The tutorial also defines wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) concepts, components, and applications. The topics include characteristics of wavelength multiplexers, optical amplifier uses in WDM links, the basics of Raman amplification, and implementation of WDM-based networks.

4G Workshop by UPH Electrical Engineering and IEEE

Electrical Engineering Department of Universitas Pelita Harapan held a workshop titled 4G: LTE, WiMAX II, or Else? Technologies, Regulations, and Opportunities at MYC Multipurpose Room, UPH Lippo Village Campus. This workshop was held under the coordination of UPH and IEEE Communications Society Indonesia Chapter, a world-class association that aims to advance the technology. Workshop was carried out on Monday, 19 April 2010.

A message from UPH Rector Jonathan Parapak was for technology personnel to also pay attention to content as well. “The advanced technology is no doubt something good for human beings, but contents are also no less important since sophisticated technology would be useless if only used for negative things. The impact of the technology itself should be devoted to the welfare of society,” he said in the speech.

Information technology is growing fast each day. Now maybe we are familiar with the term 3G or even 3.5G for the latest one of data transmission process through internet. However, soon we will be dazzled by 4G technology, which has the speed up to 100MB/sec for uploading and 1GB/sec for downloading.

All of this was discussed in the workshop that presented five speakers who are competent in their respective field. Ihan Martoyo from UPH discussed “4G: It Is Not What You Think”, H. Arief Gunawan from Telkom and IEEE with the topic “LTE: The Technology Details”, Hadi Hariyanto from Telkom and IEEE on “WiMAX II: Technology and Challenges”, Denny Setiawan from UI on “4G Policy and Regulatory Challenges”, and Kusuma Lienandjaja from Ericsson Indonesia with the topic “Business Opportunities with 4G.” (UPH/cyn)
