Presented by Javran Erfanian for 2 hours, this online tutorial provides an end to end picture of wireless access technologies focusing on generations of mobile technology standards. A general perspective of wireless communications and radio transmission is provided, along with the fundamental, relevant concepts such as multiple access, modulation and coding, physical layer attributes.

The tutorial explores the increasing sophistication in the evolution of wireless access generations.

Opening The Gates to 4G

IEEE Communications Society, Indonesia Chapter, will carry out a seminar to introduce the aspects of 4G Mobile Communication Technology & Business. Seminar will be conducted in Bandung, 21 November 2009, from 08:00 to 17:00. The speakers of the seminar, among others, are Kuncoro Wastuwibowo (chairman of IEEE Comsoc Indonesia Chapter), Arief Hamdani Gunawan (vice chair of IEEE Indonesia Section), and Muhammad Ary Murti (past chair of IEEE Comsoc Indonesia Chapter).

The topics will include:

IEEE P1902.1: Wireless Visibility Networks

IEEE telah menyetujui standard wireless baru: IEEE 1902.1™, “Standard for Long Wavelength Wireless Network Protocol,” yang merupakan peningkatan dari protokol jaringan visibilitas yang dinamai RuBee™. RuBee adalah protokol transceiver yang bersifat dua arah, on-demand, peer-to-peer, beroperasi pada panjang gelombang di bawah 450 kHz. Protokol ini bekerja pada lingkungan keras dalam bentuk jaringan ribuan penanda (tag) yang berjangkauan 3 hingga 17 meter. Standar ini diharapkan dapat digunakan dalam bidang kedokteran untuk menangani pasien; serta untuk penanganan aset berharga, fasilitas pemerintahan, industri penerbangan, pengelolaan persenjataan, hingga hal-hal lain seperti aset bergerak, dan peternakan .

John K Stevens, Ketua Kelompok Kerja IEEE 1902.1 mengatakan, “RuBee tags are ideal in situations where bandwidth is not an issue, but where low cost, high tag count, long battery life and use in harsh environments, such as near steel and water, are critical performance criteria.”

IEEE 1902.1™ menawarkan protokol yang real-time dan mudah dicari (menggunakan tag). Pengalamatannya mirip alamat IP dengan subnet yang terkait kepada taksonomi aset. Kecepatan data hanya 300 hingga 9,600 Baud. Jaringan visibilitas RuBee dikelola menggunakan router Ethernet saja. Tag bisa dikelola melalui web, dan jika diperlukan dapat dibuat tercari melalui mesin pencari (seperti Google) atau melalui server nama tag “.tag” dari Visible Assets.
